Cellular concrete waste: An efficient new way for H2S removal

The ability of cellular concrete waste (CC) to remove hydrogen sulfide (H2S) from a mimic biogas composed nitrogen, oxygen and H2S was investigated using abiotic filtration systems for concentration up 1500 mg m−3 Empty Bed Residence Time (EBRT) ranging 30 180 s. influence the humidity material in removal studied. In wetted conditions (relative > 97 %), 169 g were removed per kg material. This value is probably lower than maximum capacity since experiment ended before end-of-life elimination could reach 32 m-3 h−1. These performances are due complex physico-chemical mechanisms operating simultaneously between different components (mainly calcium oxide CaO silicate hydrate SiO2 nH2O, ferric Fe2O3) leading modification mechanical structure sulfate (gypsum CaSO4 2H2O) production elemental sulfur (octasulfur S8). Empirical relationships based on EBRT established (i) predict Removal Efficiency (RE) system (logistic equation); (ii) assess time Results obtained suggest that this simple, robust cheap technology would be suitable valuable technique treat gas flowrates generated by decentralized domestic digesters.
